Oil
Cyperus Scariosus is obtained from the dark brown to black
rhizomes of the species Scariosus belonging to the genus
CYPERUS (Family-Cyperaceae). It occurs in the damp parts
of Uttar Pradesh. The oil obtained in greenish brown liquid
having a persistant heavy woody odour. This oil is used
as a fixative, for flavouring of Tobacco and scentng of
soaps. It does not deteriorate in alkaline medium and
its tone resembles to Oil Vetvert and Pachouli Oil. It
may be used in heavy fougeres and Hyacinth. Its consitutients
are mostly high boiling sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpene
alchoholes and ketones.
