Basil
oil is produced from the species (leaves) of Ocimum basicum
(var glabratum). It is a rainy season crop in the north
western part of Uttar Pradesh. This oil contains mainly
methyl chavicos (around 70%) and Linalool (around 25%)
alongwith methyl cinammate and eugenol . The oil has a
clean herbal/spicy character useful for direct application
in perfumes and flavours.
