Valerian
oil is derived from the rhizomes and roots of Valerian
Vallichi. It contains mainly bornyl acetate and iso-valerate
(Major compounds), cary ophylene, alpha and beta pinenes,
valeramone, beta ionone, borneol, camphene, iso valeric
acid.
The odour is musky-woody with greenish note. It gives
interesting odour effects when used alongwith heavy odour
aromatics like patchouli and oakmoss and also with top
and middle notes aromatics like linalool and linalyl acetate
and oils containing them. It is also valued as a source
of fruity notes in flavours such as peach and apple.
